The new Peugeot 3008 and its larger sibling, the Peugeot 5008, have each received a four-star ANCAP safety rating, following the latest round of assessments released for Australian models. The safety rating applies to all hybrid variants of both vehicles sold locally and is valid until December 2031.

ANCAP determined the results based on crash testing of the two-row Peugeot 3008, with findings applied to the closely related three-row 5008. Technical data shared by Peugeot confirmed that the structural and safety performance of both vehicles was comparable.

Strong Protection in Crash Tests

Both models performed well in physical crash tests, offering good levels of protection for adults and children. The vehicles earned 82% for Adult Occupant Protection and 87% for Child Occupant Protection. ANCAP highlighted full points for driver protection in the side impact and oblique pole tests, as well as top marks for the child dummies seated in second-row positions.

However, a centre airbag is not fitted to either model. This meant that a marginal rating was noted for chest protection of front seat occupants in side impact crashes, which limited overall performance in that area.

Collision Avoidance Holds Back Overall Rating

The 3008 and 5008 scored 79% for Vulnerable Road User Protection, thanks in part to the vehicles’ ability to detect pedestrians and cyclists using autonomous emergency braking (AEB). However, their Safety Assist score of 65% was not high enough to earn a five-star rating.

Standard safety tech on both vehicles includes:

  • AEB for car-to-car, pedestrian, and cyclist detection
  • Junction and crossing AEB
  • Lane keep assist (LKA) and lane departure warning (LDW)
  • Emergency lane keeping (ELK)
  • Speed assistance with sign recognition

ANCAP noted that AEB Backover is not available, meaning the vehicle will not automatically brake to avoid obstacles while reversing.

“Both the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 provide a reasonable safety package,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg. “With some small enhancements to collision avoidance performance, five-star ratings are within reach.”

Important Notes for Families

While the 3008 provides strong child occupant protection in second-row seats, the 5008 does not include top tether anchorages in its third-row seating. As a result, ANCAP does not recommend installing child restraints in the third row.

Both models come equipped with dual frontal, side chest-protecting, and side head-protecting airbags, but the absence of a centre airbag could impact protection in certain side crashes.
