LG and Mercedes-Benz Group AG are strengthening ties to further the manufacturing of automotive parts for smart cars and electric vehicles (EV). This collaboration falls under the “One LG Solution” strategy, where the group will leverage its partnerships with LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Energy Solution, and LG Innotek to aid Mercedes-Benz in its own goals towards future mobility.
PARTNERING UP
Last 13 November, discussions between LG and Mercedes-Benz Group AG took place in Seoul. The two conglomerates agreed to strengthen their relationship to produce advanced EV and smart car components.
Under this collaboration, LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Energy Solution, and LG Innotek will produce batteries, displays, and autonomous driving sensors for Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming line of EVs and software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
“We plan to further solidify our strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz based on our user experience-oriented value, comprehensive SDV solution portfolio and business competitiveness in the automotive parts industry proven in the global market,” said an LG executive during their discussion.
LG Electronics is slated to produce the carmaker’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), specifically for the EQS model. Meanwhile, LG Display provides Mercedes-Benz with plastic organic-light emitting diode (P-OLED_ displays. Lastly, LG Energy Solution supplies Mercedes-Benz with batteries, increasing production capacity and research and development efforts.
LG Energy Solutions is also considering a partnership with LG Innotek to create camera modules like LiDAR and Radar for Mercedes-Benz’ vehicles. LG Innotek is currently in talks to further develop sensor technologies for German carmaker’s autonomous driving systems.
