Indonesia’s car sales for the month of April amounted to 80,776 units, 55 per cent higher year-on-year (YoY).

Indonesia recorded sales of 80,776 vehicles for the month of April alone, increasing by 32 per cent from last month. March marked a slump in auto sales due to the Eid holidays. With increased sales in April, Q1 sales amounted to 289,787 units, 12.5 per cent more than the same period last year.

Sales by brand
Overall, new car sales have increased across the board. Toyota and Daihatsu remain Indonesia’s top 2 selling car brands, rising by 28 per cent and 38 per cent respectively. Daihatsu sales were largely driven by the popularity its Gran Max PU and Gran Max MB models. The Gran Max PU dethroned the Toyota Kijang Innova as the best-selling car for the month, while the Gran Max MB placed 10th in ranking, surging 835 per cent from March.
BYD placed 3rd, increasing in sales by a staggering 113 per cent compared to last month. The BYD Atto 1 model proved to be popular in April, breaching the top 10 best-selling cars of the month. The model moved from 141st place in March to 6th place in April.
Suzuki placed 4th and sold 5,965 new vehicles in April. Despite its sales increasing by 31 per cent, the brand’s ranking remains the same as in March. Majority of its sales were driven by its Carry Pick-Up model, which ranked 3rd among the top 10 best-selling cars of April.
Mitsubishi dropped to 5th place from 3rd place last month. Its monthly sales remain similar, with 5,132 units sold in April compared to March’s 5,190 units.
Honda’s ranking also dropped from 5th place in March to 6th place in April. Sales decreased by 14.8 per cent, from 4,129 units to 3,515 units. Jaecoo also dropped by one rank to 7th place, selling 26 units from last month.
Isuzu maintained its 9th place from last month, selling 1,896 units in April. Lastly, Wuling knocked Hyundai out of the top 10 with 1,578 units.
