GENERAL OVERVIEW

Of almost 32,000 vehicles sold, 25,793 were sales of members from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA). According to their website, non-VAMA member VinFast reportedly delivered 11,382 units—though no sales figures were mentioned. Meanwhile, fellow non-VAMA member Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam (HTV), reported sales of 4,197 vehicles overall for the same month. Combined with Hyundai’s and VinFast’s sales, total sales amount to 47,556 units with a cumulative tally of 254,784 units since January.

Breaking sales down by category, overall sales were composed of 17,622 completely built-up (CBU) units and 14,355 completely knocked down (CKD) units. Majority of the vehicles sold were passenger cars, amounting 17,989 total and increasing by 10.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY). Commercial vehicle sales, on the other hand, reached 6,608 units and increased by 29.7 per cent YoY. Hybrid vehicles performed best with 1,153 sold and a whopping 100.2 per cent increase YoY. Special purpose vehicle (SPV) sales reached only 43 units, decreasing by 30.6 per cent from June of last year.

Among VAMA members, Toyota took the lead with sales of 6,213 units and a 19.4 per cent market share. The Japanese auto giant sold a total of 29,274 vehicles and acquired 18 per cent market share so far this year. Despite their high sales, only one Toyota model made it to the top 10 best-selling cars of the month, the Yaris Cross, selling 1,122 units.

Second to Toyota is Ford, with 4,167 vehicles sold and 13 per cent market share acquired this month. The American carmaker’s sales increased by 26 per cent compared to June of last year. Ford’s total sales of 2025 so far amount to 21,700 units, marking a 22.9 per cent increase YoY. Its best-selling units for June were the Ranger and Everest, which sold 1,403 units and 1,122 units respectively.

Mitsubishi came in third, with 3,663 vehicles sold and 11.5 per cent market share acquired in June. For the first half of the year, the brand’s vehicle sales amount to 15,793 so far. Its sales for the month increased by 25.7 per cent YoY, while cumulative sales since January are up 10.8 per cent. Mitsubishi’s top-selling vehicles for the month were the XPander, which sold 1,724 units, and the XForce, which sold 1,431 units.

Three Thaco auto brands sold nearly the same number of units for June. Thaco Mazda sold 2,882 units, while Thaco Truck and Kia sold 2,315 units and 2,177 units respectively. Among these three, Mazda performed the best in terms of market share with 9 per cent acquired. Truck and Kia, on the other hand, acquired 7.2 per cent and 6.8 per cent of the market respectively. However, Truck had the largest difference in YoY comparisons, with a whopping 77.8 per cent increase. Mazda did fairly well in June sales, boosted by 12.5 per cent since last year—this is largely driven by sales of its CX-5 model. Kia’s sales did not increase compared to last year but fell 24.3 per cent.

VINFAST’S PERFORMANCE

A rising giant in Vietnam’s car market, VinFast’s VF3 and VF5 models were the first and second best-selling cars of the month. The VF 3 sold 3,667 units, while the VF 5 sold 3,060 units. Both are close to double the sales of Mitsubishi’s XPander, which came in 3rd. The EV maker reportedly sold 67,569 units so far for the year, a 211 per cent increase from 2024 of the same month.

According to the official press release, the company also established a new production facility in the Vung Ang Economic Zone. The plant will produce the VF 3, Minio Green, and EC Van models for both domestic and international markets.
