Vietnam ended 2025 with a total of 375,736 in new vehicle sales, up 10.5 per cent compared to 2024.  

GENERAL SALES 

Data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) revealed that its members sold a total of 375,736 vehicles in 2025. For the month of December, Vietnam recorded 47,067 new vehicles sales, up 20 per cent month-on-month and 49 per cent year-on-year (YoY). December proved to be Vietnam’s best-selling month of the year. 

Passenger car sales made up most December’s sales with 32,452 units sold, 58.6 up YoY. Commercial vehicle sales amounted to 8,510 units sold, 58.3 higher YoY. There were 89 special purpose vehicles were sold for the month, 1 unit less than December last year. Hybrid vehicle sales fared better, selling 1,649 units, 11.5 per cent up YoY.  Total hybrid sales for the year also saw double-digit growth, surging by 43.6 YoY. 

Total VAMA member sales amounted to 42,701 units, representing a 55.8 increase YoY. 

BRAND PERFORMANCE 

Mitsubishi overtook Toyota as the best-selling brand among VAMA members in December. The company sold 8,960 vehicles and acquired 19 per cent market share. Compared to December last year, Mitsubishi’s sales surged by 135.3 per cent. This lifted Mitsubishi’s year-to-date (YTD) figures to 44,107 units sold and 13.4 per cent market share acquired. Mitsubishi’s 2025 sales improved by 7.1 per cent, largely attributed to 19,891 sales of the Mitsubishi XPander. 

Toyota ranked second, selling 8,329 units and acquiring 27.3 per cent market share in December. Toyota’s YTD tally came to 71,954 units and 19.2 per cent share of Vietnam’s 2025 car market. Overall, Toyota’s performance improved by 8.1 per cent for the year 2025 compared to its performance in 2024. 

Ford remained firmly in the top 3, with 6,143 units sold and 11.1 per cent market share acquired in December. The American carmaker saw the biggest improvement YoY by 135.3 per cent. Ford’s YTD performance came to 44,107 units sold and 11.7 market share acquired, improving by 19.6 per cent YoY. 

Thaco Mazda placed fourth, selling 4,670 units and acquiring 9.9 per cent market share. The brand’s sales improved by 64.1 per cent YoY, bringing its YTD tally to 32,455 units. However, its YTD sales declined slightly by 0.4 per cent. 

In fifth place, Thaco Kia posted similar results. The brand sold 4,233 units and acquired 9 per cent of the market. Sales more than doubled compared with December 2024, amounting in 27,176 units sold in 2025. Its YTD tally, however, is significantly higher than lower compared to 2024, declining by 21.4 per cent. 

Among non-VAMA members, Hyunda posted 53,530 units sold overall in 2025, declining 20 per cent YoY. Meanwhile, local carmaker VinFast reported record-breaking sales of 175,099 units for the full year.
