Thailand’s new car sales reached 49,102 units in July. This figure is expected to improve further, boosted by rising electric vehicle (EV) sales.

SALES AND PRODUCTION

Data from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) Auto Club revealed car sales for the month of July reached 49,102 units and 531,796 units from January to July. Monthly sales have increased by 5.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY), but cumulative sales have declined by 0.7 per cent compared to the same period last year. Fortunately for Thailand’s auto market, this is the 4th consecutive month of increased sales.

Cumulative sales of EVs reached around 66,000 units for the period of January to July, an 11.4 per cent jump from last year. As of July 2025, EV sales comprise 17.7 per cent of the Thai auto market share. According to The Nation, industry experts expect sales to improve moving forward with EVs potentially reaching 20 per cent market share within the year. FTI Auto Club spokesperson Surapong Paisitpattanapong expects car sales to reach 600,000 units by the end of the year.

Rising EV sales are largely helped by government support and consumer confidence. As more options for EVs appear in the market, consumers become encouraged to purchase them, especially in the wake of surging fuel prices.

While domestic sales improve, the kingdom’s auto production decreased. Thailand produced a total of 124,829 vehicles last month, an 11.4 per cent decline from July last year. Auto exports have also declined, from 83,527 units exported last year to just 72,439 this year. This difference marked an 11.7 per cent decline for completely built-up (CBU) vehicles.

BEST-SELLING MODELS

The list of top 10 best-selling models of the month is dominated by Toyota, taking up 4 spots. The Hilux model came out on top with 5,280 units sold but sharply decreasing 15.8 per cent YoY. Cumulatively, a total of 38,733 Hilux units were sold in Thailand so far – 23.9 per cent less compared to the same period last year.

The Yaris ATIV followed at second place, selling 4,748 units in July. Compared to the Hilux, the Yaris ATIV improved by 19.7 per cent YoY. 32,175 units of the Yaris ATIV were sold since January, a 5.1 per cent increase from last year.

At third place is the Isuzu D-Max which sold 3,716 units last month. D-Max sales decreased sharply by 25.5 per cent YoY and 27.3 per cent less in cumulative sales for the year. This is Isuzu’s only entry into the top 10.

The Toyota Fortuner sold 1,452 units, increasing by 12.9 per cent compared to July last year. Cumulative sales from January until July showed a figure of 9,417 units sold, declining by 8 per cent YoY.
