The Malaysian government recently approved the development of a one-stop mobile app for electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the country.

This e-Mobility Service Platform (e-MSP) is expected to simplify Malaysian motorists’ experience by showcasing all public EV charging ports in the one application.

A ONE-STOP APP

For Malaysian EV drivers, there are an overwhelming amount of EV charging apps currently on the market. The current available apps were developed by Charge Point Operators (CPO) and allow users to locate and reserve charging ports, check availability, and pay digitally. However, users also have to choose between six different payment methods between these apps, it’s far from a straightforward process

In a bid to lessen the apps and simplify the process, the Malaysian government is giving the greenlight to develop a one-stop e-MSP.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the approval was given during the National Energy Council (MTN) meeting. According to the PM’s official Facebook post: “The meeting also approved the development of an e-mobility service platform (e-MSP) to integrate the operations of electric vehicle charging stations across the country.”

DIGITAL ENERGY TRANSITION

This app will be one of several advancements under the EV Infrastructure and digital energy transition under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

The proposal was first reported by The Star as early as March of 2025. It was put forth by PLANMalaysia, the town and country planning department under Malaysia’s Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). The same article revealed that the proposal may include the participation of the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corp (MGTC) and Malaysia Digital Department.

“A single app may involve integrating various app interfaces, ensuring that they can communicate seamlessly and that users can access all charging stations regardless of the network,” PLANMalaysia wrote.
