The ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) rated the Toyota Yaris Cross 2025 a perfect rating of 5 stars and an overall score of 83.92 points. The Yaris Cross is the newest addition to Toyota’s line of SUVs.
BASIS OF RATING
Under the 2021-2025 ASEAN NCAP protocol, the Yaris Cross was assessed under four categories; Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS).
The specific variant tested was manufactured and will be sold in Indonesia. The same variant will also be sold in Brunei, the Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam. Variants produced in Thailand and Malaysia will be sold to their respective countries.
RESULTS
First, under the AOP category, the Yaris Cross scored 36.6 points in total. The frontal occupant compartment remained intact during the crash test. The dummies’ legs and heads received good protection, while both chests received adequate protection. The area that received marginal protection was the driver’s right shin. Upon assessing the damage of side impact, it was determined that the dummies received good protection for their heads and upper torsos.
The protection is largely helped by the airbags and seatbelts equipped in the front cabin. The only area lacking airbags and protection is the knee.
Second, for the COP category, the SUV scored a total of 17.32 points. Most child car seats tested were incompatible in the front seat, but nearly all were capable of being installed in the left and right rear passenger seats. Car seats for both infants and small children up to 3 years old scored 12 points each.
Third, the Yaris Cross scored 16.89 points in the Safety Assist category. It is equipped with all standard safety features, namely; six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR), and Pedestrian Protection (PP). All of these features are included across all variants. Though the Yaris Cross is well-equipped, it is missing AEB assistance for pedestrians.
Lastly, the Yaris Cross scored 12.21 points in the Motorcyclist Safety category. Blind spot detection is available on the nearside and offside of the vehicle, but is an optional feature across variants. Auto High Beams for headlights are also available as an option but Advanced Rear Visualisation is unavailable on all variants. Pedestrian Protection, on the other hand, is installed in all variants of the Yaris Cross.
