Mercedes-Benz’s EQS has received a five-star safety rating from ANCAP. This rating applies to the EQS 450 4MATIC model. The EQS AMG 53 4MATIC+ is unrated.
When tested against the 2020-2022 assessment criteria the battery electric sedan “showed high levels of protection to vehicle occupants and good collision avoidance capability”.
The vehicle scored major points in terms of Adult Occupant Protection with a 96 percent score. It scored full points in side impact and oblique pole tests as well as in the full-width frontal tests. “A high score in this test demonstrates a good combination of vehicle structure and restraint performance,” says ANCAP.
The EQS also obtained the highest score for Child Occupant Protection under the 2020-2022 protocols with 93 percent. During the test, ANCAP says “it provided protection of child occupants in the frontal offset (MPDB) and side impact tests as well as the restraint installation assessment involving a range of common child restraints”.
The sedan scored 76 percent in Vulnerable Road User Protection. It showed an overall Good performance in detecting and reacting to pedestrians and cyclists thanks to its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system particularly in forward, turning, and reversing scenarios.
It also 80 percent in terms of Safety Assist. The vehicle is fitted with an AEB system capable of functioning at highway speeds, a lane support system (LSS) with lane keep assist (LKA) and
emergency lane keeping (ELK) functionality, and blind spot monitoring (BSM). A speed assistance system (SAS) with speed limit information function (SLIF) is also standard. Furthermore, it is fitted with a seatbelt reminder system for all seating positions. However, occupancy detection is not available for rear seating positions. The vehicle is also fitted with driver drowsiness monitor system.
