The Hyundai IONIQ 6 and Lexus RX have secured a five-star ANCAP safety rating, with both vehicles scoring well across all areas of assessment.
The IONIQ 6 received 97% in adult occupant protection, 88% in child occupant protection, 66% in vulnerable road user protection and 90% in safety assist.
Vehicles come fitted with autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, Junction Assist and Backover), a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK), and an advanced speed assistance system (SAS).
“As electric vehicles don’t have large engine components under the bonnet, they have the potential to pose less risk to vehicle occupants in a frontal crash scenario, compared to petrol and diesel cars. We have seen that play out in testing of the IONIQ 6 – with only a very slight penalty applied for potential injury risk to adult occupants,” said ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg.
The Lexus RX scored impressively, receiving 90% in adult occupant protection, 89% in child occupant protection, 89% in vulnerable road user protection and 93% in safety assist.
The vehicle features autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, Junction Assist and Backover), a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK), blind spot monitoring (BSM), and an advanced speed assistance system (SAS).
“The Lexus RX is another of our top performers – achieving high scores across all key areas of assessment resulting in a five-star ANCAP safety rating,” Ms Hoorweg said.
