The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications has issued a recall of 15,080 small SUVs due to a manufacturing issue that could cause serious injury.
According to a recall notice issued by the Department, the affected cars are the Hyundai Venue (QX) 2020 – 2022 cars.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator may fracture when deployed in the event of an accident,” the department said.
“If the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator fractures, metal fragments may be propelled at high speed towards the vehicle occupants and could cause serious injury.”
While there had been no known incidents in Australia, Hyundai says it will alert affected owners in writing and urge them to visit their authorized local dealership to have the “component inspected and rectified, free of charge.”
Affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) can be found here.
In August 2022, a recall notice for more than 5000 Hyundai i30 Sedan models built between 2020 and 2022 was also issued due to the same manufacturing problem.
