AfMA is delighted to announce the opening of nominations for the 2022 AfMA Fleet Awards.

Since their introduction in 1996 the awards have recognised new approaches and applications that have produced substantial reductions in costs, lowered emissions and improved safety outcomes.

The awards are open to any individual who is directly employed in a fleet management role within a private company, utility, government department, council, or not-for-profit organisation operating in Australasia except for employees of vehicle manufacturers and Fleet Management Organisations.

Nominations for multiple awards are encouraged and accepted, and you can also self-nominate.

Fleet Manager of the Year

Sponsored by BP Australia, this Award is presented to an individual demonstrating excellence across the field of Fleet Management.

2021 Winner: Steve Ellis (Telstra)

Having spent more than 43 years working with Telstra, Steve has certainly seen it all. Despite an already impressive career, the last twelve months demonstrated Steve’s ongoing leadership and fleet prowess on an even deeper level.

“We’ve been reducing our surplus fleet and we continue to transition to more fuel-efficient vehicles – at the end of FY20, 20 per cent of our operational fleet were hybrid vehicles,” Steve said.

Doing so saw Steve and his team introduce hundreds of hybrids into the fleet to replace large legacy station wagons, which has led to a 28 per cent fuel reduction.

“To win this award and receive this recognition is a real honour.” Read more.

Fleet Environment Award

Sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company Australia, this Award is presented to an organisation for outstanding achievement in running a green fleet as part of a sustainability fleet policy.

2021 Winner: ACT Government

Minister for Emissions Reduction, Shane Rattenbury, said the award recognises the success of the ACT Government’s zero emissions fleet transition to date and the benefits that this leadership can have in reducing emissions and encouraging industry transformation and broader changes.

“Our fleet transition is reducing emissions and reducing air pollution so that Canberra tackles climate change and remains a great place to live,” Minister Rattenbury said.

“We now have over 140 zero emissions vehicles in our fleet. This includes 52 electric vehicles, 70 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and 20 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.” Read more.

Fleet Safety Award

Sponsored by Teletrac Navman and Innovation Group, this Award is presented to an organisation demonstrating best practice in Fleet Safety.

2021 Winner: Spotless/Downer Group

For the Spotless/Downer Group team, the result is recognition for continued work to standardise the fleet and implement the use of telematics to deliver significant improvement in driver behaviour.

“Our most successful outcome has been standardisation of the fleet and all the safety advantages that go with that,” Spotless’ Fleet Coordinator Matthew Ogilvie said.

“We’ve been able to grab real data that has significantly changed our fleet going forward and we’ve been able to introduce a zero-harm culture that has been implemented from our executive team down.”  Read more.
