Vietnamese automaker VinFast and Indonesia’s Subang Regency Government have signed a strategic cooperation to develop a toll road in the province.
A NEW ROAD AHEAD
The agreement, announced in January, involves VinFast Indonesia, the Subang Regency Government, and toll road operator PT Luntas Marga Sedaya. The upcoming toll road will connect the district of Cikampek and the Cipali Toll Road.
According to an article by the Vietnam Investment Review, “VinFast Indonesia will fully finance all project-related expenditures, encompassing master planning, feasibility studies, permitting, construction, and ancillary costs.”
, The Subang Regency Government will act as the main coordinator of the project, assigning organisations to implement the project. It will also be responsible for securing permits and approvals from the Ministry of Public Works. Its other tasks involve technical documentation, environmental assessments, and monthly evaluations.
“In every market we enter, we are committed to building enduring partnerships that generate shared prosperity. We do not view infrastructure as a peripheral investment, but as a foundational catalyst for sustainable socio-economic advancement,” said VinFast Asia CEO, Pham Sanh Chau.
“Our commitment to Indonesia is long-term and holistic, working alongside government and communities to strengthen competitiveness, create employment, and elevate quality of life,” he continued.
VINFAST IN INDONESIA
VinFast entered the Indonesian market in 2024. It first introduced its VF 5 and VF e34 right-hand drive models to the country. The company established dealership stores and offered flexible prices and a battery subscription program to its initial customers.
By July 2024, the automaker opened its assembly plant in the Subang region. The facility can produce up to 50,000 vehicles per year and houses the brand’s body shop, general assembly shop, paint shop, and testing area. It was initially scheduled to being operations by December 2025.
In December of the same year, VinFast brought its electric taxi service, Xanh SM or Green Smart Mobility, to Indonesia. The initial launch featured a fleet of electric taxis and operated exclusively in Jakarta.
A year later, VinFast announced that it would increase its investment to USD 1 billion (AUD 1.4 billion). Alongside this announcement, the company announced that it would ramp up production of 350,000 units per year. VinFast began trial productions in December 2025 and delayed full capacity operations to Q1 of 2025.
