Vietnam-based ride-hailing electric vehicle (EV) service Green SM (GSM) recently expanded its operations to India.
New in New Delhi
Owned by Vingroup, the EV ride-hailing service operates in parts of Europe and Southeast Asia, including Denmark, the Philippines, Laos, and Indonesia. As part of its expansion into the wider Asian market, the company debuted in its fifth international market, India earlier this month.
“India is one of the most important mobility markets in the world. Its scale, rapid growth, and strong spirit of innovation are opening up many opportunities for the future of green transportation,” GSM Global CEO Nguyen Van Thanh said at the launch ceremony.
“Green SM hopes to bring high-quality fully electric rides to customers, while contributing to broader access to safe, reliable, and more sustainable mobility choices,” he continued.
Green Drivers and Green SM Limo
In India, the service is referred to as GSM Limo and uses seven-seater electric SUVs. Like its international counterparts, GSM Limo will exclusively use VinFast’s Green SM Limo model. So far, the ride-hailing app is only available in key areas of India’s capital, New Delhi.
The company will deploy a fleet of 10,000 electric SUVs and expand its services in phases. Further phases will see the ride-hailing service operate in other regions of India. Each vehicle in the GSM Limo fleet will have drinking water, tissues, and other amenities for passengers.
As for security features, cameras are installed in each vehicle’s interior and exterior. Emergency support buttons will be available for both the driver and passengers.
GSM Limo’s professional drivers are called “Green Drivers.” According to the Vietnam Investment Review, Green Drivers are trained in EV operations, road safety, and customer service skills.
GSM Limo is the second large-scale ride-hailing service to debut in India. The first was BluSmart, which ceased operations in 2025 after six years of operation. According to Business Standard, BluSmart’s closure caused concerns about India’s capability to sustain fully electric ride-hailing services.
Vingroup is optimistic that its fleet of VinFast EVs and additional charging stations will support GSM Limo’s long-term viabilityin India.
