Telekom Malaysia (TM) and Perodua team up to advance Malaysia’s auto sector by signing an agreement last December 2024. This collaboration is part of Malaysia’s New Industrial Masterplan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

TM-PERODUA COLLABORATION

According to the agreement, TM is set to upgrade Perodua’s current digital infrastructure by providing “fixed and wireless connectivity, SD-WAN solutions for dealer networks, and private 5G for automotive applications.” TM Group will be participating in this collaboration through TM One, their enterprise and government solutions branch.

“Our partnership with Perodua reflects our commitment to enabling digital transformation in the automotive industry, improving user experiences and long-term value,” said TM Group Chief Executive Officer Amar Huzaimi Md Deris.

The collaboration also aims to create a “sustainable future for the automotive industry” by also providing workforce training, research and development, and sustainable practices. TM intends to contribute its existing services such as cloud system, data and analytics, AI, and cybersecurity to the partnership. These services will significantly aid Perodua’s operations, data management, and long-term goals.

NIMP 2030 AND MALAYSIA’S AUTO INDUSTRY

The NIMP 2030 was launched in 2023 to further the country’s manufacturing and industrial sectors and include the Malaysian government as a key player in the country’s economy. The Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Industry created 4 missions with corresponding strategies to achieve their goals. Though the automotive sector was not listed as a priority sector, it has a key role in the NIMP 2030 regardless.

Perodua’s participation in the collaboration is key to Malaysia’s automotive tech advancement. The carmaker will integrate TM’s services into its infotainment and amp system, as well as joint efforts for marketing expansion.

One of the project’s key priorities is the de-carbonisation of its sectors. The country is aiming to “push for net-zero” emissions and “transition to renewable and clean energy.” Engaging the help a major telecom group and the country’s flagship vehicle manufacturer is surely a step further to push for EV integration and net-zero emissions.
