Vietnam’s car market grew again in April 2025 with a 19 per cent increase year-on-year. Leading the charge are Japanese auto giant Toyota and Vietnam’s own VinFast.

Vietnam’s car market was up by 19 per cent last April year-on-year with 34,055 new vehicles sold in the past month. This figure includes VAMA members and Hyundai’s sales, amounting to 117,768 vehicles sold since January.

The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) reported 20,766 sales of passenger vehicles, 8,619 commercial units, and 200 special-purpose units among its members. Passenger and commercial vehicle sales were both down by 7 per cent, while special-purpose vehicles were up by 11 per cent.

The hybrid vehicle segment grew 82 per cent YoY to 973 units sold last April. Year-to-date, there have been 3,535 hybrid vehicles sold so far in 2025.

Locally assembled vehicle sales came to 13,890 units, down by 7 per cent, whilst sales of imported CBU (completely built-up) vehicles tumbled 60 per cent to 15,695 units sold.

Among Vienam’s top-selling vehicles, VinFast dominated the market with three of its models in the top 10. Its VF5 and VF3 models take the #1 and #2 spots respectively in April, with VF3 being the most popular model year-to-date. While the VF6, previously #7, climbs up the ranks to 3rd place in April.

Among Japanese brands, Mazda’s CX-5 model climbs to the #4 spot. Meanwhile, the Honda City claims the 7th spot. April ushers in 3 models from American carmaker Ford; the Ranger, Territory, and Everest claim the 4th, 8th, and 10th spots respectively. The Hyundai Creta rounds out the top 10, taking the top 9th spot.

MARKET STATISTICS

According to VinFast’s official website, the EV maker delivered 9,588 units in Vietnam last April. 3,731 of these units were the VF5 model and 2,378 units were of the VF3. The company also delivered 1,763 units of the VF6 model. VinFast has also began its deliveries of its transport service models, the Herio Green and Nerio Green, last April.

Among VAMA members, Toyota took the lead in April with 5,566 vehicles sold, a 24 per cent jump YoY. This figure also shows a slight 4 per cent increase compared to March 2025. Following Toyota is Ford, which sold 3,997 units in April. The American carmaker’s sales improved YoY by 31 per cent but fell 6 per cent compared to March.

Thaco Truck, Thaco Mazda, Thaco Kia, and Mitsubishi all sold vehicles in the 2000-unit range. Among them, Thaco Mazda and Mitsubishi both fell 19 per cent YoY. Thaco Truck, however, grew a notable 46 per cent YoY. Overall, total Thaco sales (including Bus Thaco and and Thaco Premium BMV + Mini) sold 7,559 units in April, 12 per cent up from last year.

Visuco, or Suzuki, fell the most YoY with a 55 per cent tumble from 1,185 units sold in April 2024 to only 530 vehicles sold in April 2025.

Overall, Vietnam’s auto market is still going strong. Local experts attribute this continuous growth to “increased consumer demand and support policies.” They also predict that the local car market will continue to grow this coming year.
