As 2025 comes to a close, AfMA reflects on a year shaped by connection and shared learning. By linking people with knowledge, we have turned industry insight into action. The results show the value of working together with purpose.
Learning, Leadership, and Collective Impact
The Australasian Fleet Education & Leadership Summit was a key moment of the year and marked AfMA’s 30th anniversary. Held under the theme, Stronger Together, the Summit brought together more than 900 fleet professionals from across the Asia Pacific. Attendees represented organisations that collectively own, manage, or influence more than one million vehicles. The event reinforced the value of coming together to share experiences, discuss change, and learn from peers.
This year’s Industry Dinner and Fleet Awards celebrated individuals who made outstanding contributions during the year. AfMA congratulates the following award recipients:
- Fleet Manager of the Year – Michael Mills, Essential Energy
- Fleet Safety Award – Scott Leahy, Sodexo Australia
- Fleet Environment Award – Tim Kynoch, Ausgrid
Beyond the main program, the Summit created space for collaboration. Delegates took part in dedicated sessions with the National Police Fleet Group, NRSPP’s Utilities Forum, and state-based Fleet Management Business Improvement Groups (FMBIG). The Leaders of Industry Dinner encouraged open discussion among peers, while the Ride and Drive experience gave participants the chance to test more than 30 electric and hybrid vehicles and better understand emerging technologies.
Learning continued throughout the year. AfMA delivered Professional Development Forums across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring regional perspectives remained central to discussion. In 2025, 22 forums were held, with recordings and presentation slides made available through the member portal.
The Personal Development Series continued under the theme, Stronger Together, with 7 webinars delivered and 1,520 registrants. The free webinar series created space for members and attendees to learn, reflect, and build skills that support their work and teams.
AfMA’s Industry Development Program supported 47 participants this year, while the Industry Mentoring Program connected 19 mentors with 19 mentees through structured guidance over the year.
AfMA’s learning resources continued to expand. Members had access to 2 online Driver Safety courses and 10 online Fleet Practitioner courses, providing flexible, practical training. These courses support ongoing professional development and help members apply new knowledge directly within their organisations. The Individual Salesperson Accreditation Program also continued, with 244 accreditations achieved during 2025.
Education pathways remained a focus, with the contextualised Diploma of Leadership and Management delivered in partnership with Swinburne University. Nine scholarships were awarded and 14 professionals graduated from the program.
The Women in Fleet Management Committee marked its first year with a series of initiatives designed to attract, elevate, and empower women across the profession. Twenty women participated in the interactive online course Empowering Women in the Workplace, held in partnership with Swinburne University. The committee also delivered the Summit session Attract, Elevate and Empower and the webinar Drive through Discomfort: How to Channel Your Inner Imposter for Greatness, which engaged 83 participants, helping members develop confidence, influence, and career growth strategies.
Members stayed informed through Weekly Fleet News, published every Friday, achieving a 45% open rate and over 240,000 deliveries. FleetDrive e-magazine published 6 issues during the year, with an average open rate of 45.7%.
AfMA also continued its role in advocacy, contributing throughout 2025 to initiatives including the Australian Automobile Association’s Real-World Emissions Strategic Advisory Group and Data Saves Lives campaign, the NRSPP Grey Fleet Working Group, and the integration of the National Public Service Fleet Management Conference into the annual Fleet Summit.
