Two of Perodua’s new models, the QV-E and Traz, secured 5-star safety ratings from the ASEAN NCAP in December 2025.
THE QV-E
Labelled as “Malaysia’s first homegrown electric vehicle (EV),” the QV-E is Perodua’s first EV. The car was first introduced in 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024) and subsequently launched a year later.
The QV-E achieved a rating of 5 stars under the ASEAN NCAP’s 2021-2025 assessment protocol, with a total weighted score of 88.36 out of 100 points.
Under the assessment protocol, the vehicle was evaluated based on four categories: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). The score breakdown is as follows:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 36.63 / 40.00 points
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): 16.73 / 20.00 points
- Safety Assist (SA): 20.00 / 20.00 points
- Motorcyclist Safety (MS): 15.00 / 20.00 points
Frontal and side impact tests were conducted to assess the vehicle’s AOP and COP categories.
In the frontal impact test, most areas of the for driver and passenger dummies received good protection. The driver dummy received only adequate protection in its chest, left leg, and feet while the passenger’s chest area received marginal protection.
The side impact test displayed better results with the driver receiving good protection all around.
Except for the knee area, airbags for the driver, passenger, sides, and curtains are available as standard on the QV-E. Retractor pre-tensioner and load limiters are also equipped as standard for both passenger and driver seatbelts.
For the COP category, ASEAN NCAP found that the QV-E’s second row left and right seats were the most compatible with its 11 tested child seat models. Only the Joie Stages and the Combi Buon Junior Air were incompatible with those seats.
Meanwhile, the Peg-Perego Primo Viaggo SL was compatible with all seats in the car, including the front passenger seats.
The QV-E is equipped with almost all of ASEAN’s recommended safety assist (SA) items. These include:
- Anti-lock Braking System
- Electronic Stability Control
- Seatbelt Reminders for all seats
- Rear Seat Occupant Detection
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Forward Collision Warning System
- and Lane Keep Assist
Apart from the Pedestrian version, Autonomous Emergency Braking for City and Inter-Urban are available.
In addition to safety assist items, the QV-E is nearly complete in motorcyclist safety features including:
- Blind Spot Detection (nearside and offside)
- Auto High Beam
- and Pedestrian Protection
- Advanced Rear Visualisation is not available on the QV-E.

THE TRAZ
Perodua’s fourth overall entry for the ASEAN NCAP’s safety rating is its new model, the Perodua Traz. Like the QV-E, the Traz received a 5-star safety rating with an overall weighted score of 86.86 points.
Below is the Traz’s safety assessment score breakdown:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 38.57 / 40.00 points
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): 17.21 / 20.00 points
- Safety Assist (SA): 18.57 / 20.00 points
- Motorcyclist Safety (MS): 12.50 / 20.00 points
The Traz SUV scored only slightly better than the QV-E in the AOP category. Both driver and passenger dummies received mostly good protection during the frontal impact test, however, the chest areas of both dummies received only adequate protection. For the side impact test, the driver dummy received good protection on all areas of its body.
The Traz’s passive safety items are identical to that of the QV-E’s. It is equipped with the same driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags as well as retractor pre-tensioner and load limiters for the passenger and driver seats. Its only missing passive safety item are airbags for the knee areas.
Its equipped safety features are almost identical to the QV-E’s, with the exception of Rear Seat Occupant Detection. The Traz also features Autonomous Emergency Braking for Pedestrian, unlike the QV-E.
For the COP category, nearly all of the tested child seat models were compatible and successfully installed in the Traz’s 2nd row left and right seats. The only unsuccessful model for these two seats was the Joie Stages, which was only successfully installed in the front passenger seat. In addition to the Joie Stages, the Combi Buon Jior Air and Britax Kidfix 2 R were successfully installed in the front passenger seat. The rest of the models were found to be incompatible with the front passenger seat.
The Traz’s MS features include:
- Blind Spot Detection (nearside and offside)
- Pedestrian Protection
Advanced Rear Visualisation and Auto High Beam are not available on the SUV.
