The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts has recently released a recall notice for 18,331 units of SUVs due to an issue with their fuel pumps.

According to the notice, the affected vehicles are the 2012-2018 ML and GLE models from Mercedes-Benz.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, water could come into contact with the fuel pump control unit. This could impair the fuel supply to the engine and result in a loss of power whilst driving,” the recall notice said.

According to the department, the hazards include “a loss of power while driving [which] could increase the risk of an accident-causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road user and bystanders.”

Owners of affected vehicles can contact their most convenient Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried out as soon as possible, free of charge.
