Progressing within your career can be challenging, and sometimes employees can find themselves in somewhat of a rut. Taking that next step can often be something we want to do – but with the time pressures of daily life and the fear of failure in the back of our minds it can be something few of us actually achieve.
Perhaps one of the silver linings of the COVID-19 pandemic is the extra time we’ve all spent working from home and having a bit more time to plan our next move. Is this the year you take the next step in broadening your career skills? Are you looking to increase your leadership potential?
Returning in 2021 is a brand new cohort of the Diploma of Leadership & Management – a unique collaboration between the Australasian Fleet Management Association (AfMA) and Swinburne University. The Diploma program has been contextualised for the automotive and fleet industries and is an online virtual classroom experience with sessions that are beamed out from Swinburne. This university qualification provides the pathway to senior management roles and is proven to deliver a real-world return on investment (ROI) for your employer.
To date the Diploma has seen graduates from a variety of different organisations with fleet management organisations (FMOs) demonstrating the greatest desire to development their employees, the below table illustrates the strength of their commitment to this industry Diploma and the development of their team.
Organisation | # of Graduates |
Toyota Fleet Management | 10 |
ORIX | 7 |
Custom Fleet | 3 |
SG Fleet | 2 |
Summit Fleet Leasing & Management | 1 |
Fleetcare | 1 |
At its core AfMA seeks to link people and knowledge to create outcomes – and it’s been encouraging to receive such incredible support from our FMOs and of course our graduates.
Toyota Motor Corporation Australia and Manheim Auctions have also enrolled multiple employees in the program and should be congratulated for advancing educational standards in their industry verticals.
“This course was very relatable to my current working environment and provided me with higher level skills and enhanced knowledge in leadership and management,” said Kristen Fairfield (Transport Accident Commission).
“This course, for me, has come at an opportune time in my career to cement my prior thinking of what management and leadership comprises of,” said Joel Read (Country Fire Authority).
“The Diploma of Leadership and Management is an excellent course that will help you become a better leader, improve your workplace and gain new life skills,” said Luke Barrows (Monash City Council).
Equally as important to the success of the program has been the ongoing scholarship support from four of AfMA’s corporate partners – Autorola, Pedders Suspension & Brakes, Geotab and NTT Data Figtree Systems. Toyota National Fleet and Toyota Fleet Management are also proud to provide support in the form of two scholarships – one for women in fleet and one for a fleet leader under 30.
All of our scholarship partners recognise the importance of professionalising the automotive and fleet industries and have embraced an opportunity to offer annual scholarships to AfMA members. Importantly, all scholarships are awarded by AfMA through and application process thereby ensuring transparency and removing any perceived impropriety between a supplier and scholarship beneficiary.
Regardless of your age, gender or years of experience in the automotive and fleet industries we encourage you to consider this opportunity with the new co-hort to commence late Macrh 2021. We ever stop growing and given the flexibility of online learning there has never been a better opportunity to try something different and take your career to the next level. What are you waiting for?
