As the fleet industry continues to evolve there has been a growing interest in the need for mobility features.

Put simply mobility functionalities can involve pool car planners, rental booking functions; journey planning and business trip expense submission tools – basically anything that can help better manage the ins and outs of your fleet vehicles.

A recent report from Chevin found a big increase in demand for mobility tools within the past 12-months. The team beyond the research noted that fleets are leading the way in finding better and more efficient ways of carrying out their fleet operations.

“This is evidence that fleets are taking on more responsibilities surrounding transportation as a whole and our software, FleetWave, is increasingly used for managing more than just company vehicles”, Chevin’s Asia-Pacific Regional Sales Manager Jackie Kirk said.

“When you look at the traditional one-vehicle-one-user model, it is quite often the case that the vehicle remains stationary in a car-park for long periods of time, which means it might not be the most cost-effective or efficient solution.”

Too often organisations aren’t properly planning their employee mobility and are paying more for their fleet than they need to. Thinking about these issues at a broad company level are important steps that can help to significantly reduce the underlying costs of your overall operations.

Jackie said that smartphones and tablets, for example, are a great way of tracking business journeys and their costs which, in turn, start to create a bigger picture of a company’s mobility needs.

“There are a range of tools within products such as FleetWave that will help fleet managers with day-to-day booking, allocation and the general management of mobility – and we are certainly seeing situations where vast amounts of useful employee-related ‘big data’ is now being proactively recorded by some fleets for these purposes,” Ms Kirk said.

“This helps managers to effectively manage more than just vehicles.”
