ANCAP has awarded five-star safety ratings to the MG 7 and GWM Haval H7, while also upgrading the MG ZS to five stars following a safety enhancement applied to newly built vehicles.

The latest results reflect strong crash performance and the inclusion of advanced driver assistance systems across all three models, reinforcing ongoing improvements in vehicle safety standards within the small SUV and mid-size passenger segments.

The MG 7 achieved a five-star rating after performing well in ANCAP’s crash tests and safety assist assessments. The liftback is fitted with a broad suite of standard safety technologies, including autonomous emergency braking with detection for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, lane keep assist with emergency intervention, intelligent speed assistance, and a driver monitoring system.

Safety upgrades lift MG ZS rating

ANCAP has also confirmed a rating upgrade for the MG ZS after the addition of a centre airbag in newly built vehicles. Australian and New Zealand MG ZS models manufactured from 4 December 2025 onwards include the centre airbag, designed to reduce the risk of injury in far-side impact crashes.

As a result of this update, the MG ZS’s Adult Occupant Protection score increased to 81 per cent, lifting its overall safety rating from four stars to five.

ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg said the improvement demonstrated the value of manufacturers making safety enhancements during a vehicle’s lifecycle.

Haval H7 earns five stars alongside voluntary recall

ANCAP also issued a five-star rating for the GWM Haval H7 following solid results across crash protection, child occupant protection, and safety assist assessments. The mid-size SUV recorded stable occupant protection in frontal and side impact tests, with strong performance across key body regions for front-seat occupants.

However, ANCAP identified an issue during full-width frontal crash testing involving the dislodgement of the driver’s head restraint. In response, GWM has initiated a voluntary recall covering all Haval H7 vehicles sold in Australia.

Ms Hoorweg said the issue highlighted the importance of thorough testing and manufacturer cooperation.

The five-star ANCAP rating applies to Haval H7 vehicles built from 15 October 2025 onwards. For earlier vehicles, the rating will only apply once the recall action has been completed.
