Mazda Australia has today released an exclusive variant of its much loved roadster, with the launch of 110 Limited Edition MX-5 RF models.
The manufacturer’s Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi, says the Limited Edition model rings true to Mazda’s mission with the MX-5.
“The MX-5 has always been a car built for driving and for those who love driving. This model preserves the classic characteristics that we know and love, while adding enhancements that boost the driving feel,” Mr Bhindi said .
“The Limited Edition MX-5 RF offers an even more invigorating and exhilarating driving experience, with enviable collectible status to boot.”
Each Limited Edition MX-5 RF model is based on the top grade MX-5 RF GT and equipped with the SKYACTIV-G petrol engine, paired with the six-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission.
The Kuroi Sports Pack fitted to the Mazda MX-5 RF Limited Edition cars adds modest winglets near the front of the wheel arch openings to direct air away from the wheels and along the sides of the body.
To help the aerodynamics, Mazda engineers have also revised the suspension with a front strut bar linking the under-bonnet suspension towers to increase chassis stiffness.
The strut brace is aided by upgraded Bilstein gas-pressurised dampers to improve the car’s already-impressive ride and handling characteristics.
New 17-inch diameter BBS alloy wheels also help sharpen the steering, adding emphasis to MX-5 RF GT’s already-impressive handling.
The handling and performance changes are rounded-out with the addition of an upgraded brake package from specialist Italian company Brembo, which enhances stopping power.
By adopting Brembo’s opposed-piston, four-pot front brake calipers, Mazda has strengthened the MX-5 RF’s positive braking feel, adding to braking controllability under high-load braking conditions.
Brake cooling performance has been improved by adopting brake discs with circular, pillar-shaped cooling fins which, in conjunction with the use of European-style low-steel brake pads, improves fade resistance by up to 26 per cent.
Use of the Brembo braking package also saves almost two kilograms of weight in the front brakes compared to the MX-5’s standard disc brakes.
Inside, the Mazda MX-5 RF Limited Edition gets body-hugging Recaro sports seats for the ultimate blend of sports and luxury.
Adding to its collectability, each car also comes with a gift-boxed, custom-made Seiko stainless steel Mazda MX-5 sports chronograph to perfectly fit the active lifestyle of Mazda MX-5 RF Limited Edition owners.
The Limited Edition MX-5 RF will be released for sale today in Mazda dealerships throughout the country, with a driveaway price of $55,790.
