Arnold Schwarzenegger has put his seal of approval on an Austrian engineering one-two.
The Governator (official title, we checked) has been involved with the Kreisel Electric company in fitting an all-electric drivetrain to the famed off-road vehicle, Mercedes-Benz’s G Wagen.
With G Wagens made in Gratz, Austria, it was an appropriate weapon of choice for the engineering team at Kreisel, developing a 350kW electric motor to propel the monstrous G350 Wagen to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds – three ticks quicker than the original diesel V6 – and with a 183km/h top speed. Charging time takes 25 minutes to 80%.
Arnie, for all his tank and Hummer shenanigans in years past, is also a fan of ‘green’ speed. “This awesome off-road vehicle as a clean and fast electric car? A dream comes true!” he said. Kreisel has also made electric projects with the VW group. And a go-kart.
