According to the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), Indonesia’s vehicle wholesale figures grew by 16 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the first half of 2026.

General overview

New vehicle sales for the month of June amounted to 77,530 units, 33 per cent higher YoY and 12 per cent higher than May. June marks Indonesia’s third consecutive month of year-to-date (YTD) sales growth, amounting to 436,564 units, 16 per cent higher than the same period last year.

The increase in overall sales for June 2026 was driven by stronger demand for passenger battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and light- and medium-duty commercial vehicles. Specifically, the growing presence of Chinese EV makers in the country, coupled with tax incentives for manufacturers and buyers, contributed to stronger BEV sales.

Japanese brands in the lead

Its subsidiary Daihatsu reported sales of 73,545 units and 14 per cent growth YoY. This placed the brand second in Indonesia’s ranking of best-selling vehicle brands of H1.

Mitsubishi followed with 32,588 units sold during the first half of 2026. Like its competitors, the brand recorded sales growth in sales of 5 per cent YoY.
