The COVID-19 virus is challenging our business needs and personal freedoms like never before as the world braces for an unprecedented impact on their daily livelihoods.

With mass closures of cultural, entertainment and sporting events it creates some comfort knowing that the AFL and NRL competitions will continue for the moment albeit only in a broadcast (TV/radio) capacity. Risk management is an important part of any business and this virus is challenging the way we all make decisions both now and the future.

The approach of both codes to assess the risk and to ultimately play in empty stadiums has been ticked off by leading health organisations, the Morrison government and the players, coaches and staff within the codes as well. This is leadership in action – making the most of a bad situation whilst prioritising safety, something all businesses need to be doing at this difficult time.

As things stand both codes are going ahead which means AfMA’s Footy Tips program is proudly continuing. In troubling times, don’t estimate the power of NRL and AFL to bring us together and give us a sense of community that we might be lacking due to isolation. Mental health and general morale are problems just as big as the virus itself, so consider how this competition might act as a uniting tool for your organisation when many of your staff especially will be working remotely in coming weeks.

Both of our AFL and NRL competitions are open to everyone (not just AfMA members) so please share this with all of your employees, suppliers and external contacts. The prize pool of each competition starts at $1000 and increases by $10 for every paid-up member. You can tip and play for fun without cost, but only members who are registered and paid by 11:59pm Tuesday March 31 2020 will be eligible for the prize money.

Please Note: In the event that seasons are abandoned all money will be refunded to players and the competition leaders (1st place only) at that point in time will receive a nominal cash prize and be declared the winner. Full terms and conditions for that event are still to be determined as necessary.
