Two newly launched electrified SUVs have received five-star safety ratings from ANCAP Safety. The Denza B8 and Hyundai Elexio were assessed under ANCAP’s 2023–2025 criteria.
Both SUVs come standard with comprehensive active safety suites aimed at preventing crashes, reinforcing the growing expectation that advanced driver assistance systems are no longer optional extras.
Hyundai Elexio adopts EV5 crash data
The all-electric Hyundai Elexio Medium SUV delivered strong protection performance across testing, particularly in scenarios involving other vehicles and motorcycles.
Following a detailed technical review, ANCAP allowed the Elexio to adopt destructive crash test results from its closely related sibling, the Kia EV5. The approach reflects shared structural architecture between the two models.
The Elexio recorded:
- Adult Occupant Protection: 88%
- Child Occupant Protection: 86%
- Vulnerable Road User Protection: 77%
- Safety Assist: 85%
Denza B8 undergoes additional testing
ANCAP awarded the plug-in hybrid Denza B8 a five-star rating based partly on earlier testing of its partner model, the Denza B5, which was rated in late 2025.
ANCAP evaluated comprehensive technical documentation and comparative test data to confirm equivalent safety performance between the two vehicles. However, due to design differences at the front of the B8, the safety authority conducted additional testing.
That assessment resulted in a Vulnerable Road User Protection score of 75 per cent.
The Denza B8 achieved:
- Adult Occupant Protection: 86%
- Child Occupant Protection: 95%
- Vulnerable Road User Protection: 75%
- Safety Assist: 78%
Safety expectations rising
ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg said buyers now expect strong safety credentials regardless of powertrain.
“Consumers are expecting increasingly comprehensive safety performance from new vehicles in the market regardless of powertrain. These five-star results demonstrate solid occupant protection combined with advanced crash avoidance technology, providing confidence for families and fleet buyers alike,” she said.
