Vietnam’s ride-hailing service Green and Smart Mobility (GSM) has expanded to Denmark, its first market in Europe.
The first launch in Europe
GSM has launched its ride-hailing services in a new market, Denmark. Launching first in Copenhagen, the company brought its mobile platform and fleet of VinFast SUVs to the country. The company chose Denmark as its initial launch market because of its reputation as a leading country in sustainability and green mobility.
“Cities shape the future of mobility long before companies do. Copenhagen is one of those cities,” Richard Nabil Chahine, CEO of Green SM Europe, said. “That is why beginning our European journey here carries special meaning for Green SM. We come with deep respect for the standards already established here, drawing on what we have learned from serving millions of journeys across Asia.”
As a sister company of Vietnam’s electric vehicle (EV) brand VinFast, GSM’s fleet is composed of VF6 and VF8 models. According to Yahoo! Finance, GSM directly employs its drivers rather than signing them on as independent partners. This unique business feature allows the company to own its fleet of vehicles and supervise driver performance both in Vietnam and overseas.
GSM provides it drivers with training and a monthly salary of DKK 299,000 (AUD $65,459) and performance bonuses. Furthermore, GSM’s drivers will be limited to eight hours of work per day.
“Our ambition is simple: to become a trusted mobility partner by delivering safe, professional and fully electric journeys that people can rely on every day. If we earn that trust, growth will naturally follow,” Chahine added.
The company has not yet announced any plans to expand their services beyond Copenhagen. Its expansion to other parts of Denmark will depend on GSM’s reception in the capital.
Beyond Vietnam
GSM announced its expansion to Europe in April this year. The ride-hailing service will also be available in Sweden, supported by its mother company VinGroup’s participation in the Vietnam-Sweden Strategic Partnership.
The ride-hailing service has already established itself in several countries in Asia such as Laos and the Philippines. One of its goals is to rival Grab, the top ride-hailing service in Southeast Asia.
Apart from Southeast Asia, GSM also expanded its services to India. Here, it will deploy a fleet of 10,000 electric SUVs in several phases. India is GSM’s fifth international market.
