Vietnam’s car market is still recovering from a period of low sales in June 2026.
General overview
According to data released by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), the Vietnamese auto market’s total industry volume (TIV) reached 24,356 units for the month of June, 13 per cent down year-on-year (YoY). For the year-to-date (YTD) tally for the period of January to June, TIV reached 100,321 units,12 per cent higher compared to the same period last year.

Passenger car sales dominated overall sales but decreased by 13 per cent YoY. Conversely, its YTD tally of 100,321 units reflects a 12 per cent increase compared to January – June of 2025.
Total commercial vehicle sales including buses and trucks amounted to 6,417 units, only 3 per cent down from June 2025. YTD sales of commercial vehicles reflect a more positive result of 38,492 units sold, 11 per cent up YoY.
Sales of special purpose vehicles (SPV) decreased significantly by 88 per cent from 43 sold to just 5. Its YTD tally fared worse with a decrease of 97 per cent, from 517 units sold last year to just 13 overall since January 2026.
A total of six battery electric vehicles (BEV) were sold this month, bringing the total tally of 2026 to 70 units.
Lastly, hybrid vehicle sales reached 2,347 units sold, marking a 41 per cent increase YoY. Its YTD tally amounted to 10,865 units sold, 83 per cent higher than the same period last year. This positive result may be attributed to consumer preference for low-emission and/or alternative fuel vehicles.

Toyota maintained its position as the top-seller among VAMA members with 6,949 units sold. Compared to June last year, the brand’s sales figures fell by 5 per cent. The YTD tally for Toyota amounted to 35,410 units, 36 per cent up from the same period last year.
Mitsubishi placed second with a wide lead, selling 3,158 units in June by 14 per cent YoY. So far, the car maker has sold 21,617 units this year, notably increasing by 37 per cent YoY.
Local manufacturer Dothanh’s sales increased to 252 units sold, 56 per cent up YoY. Its YTD sales reached 1,337 units, also reflecting a increase of more than 50 per cent YoY.
Non-VAMA member VinFast recorded a 58 per cent increase in sales YoY, from 11,382 units in June 2025 to 17,955 in June 2026. Its Limo Green model contributed largely to this uptick in sales. This specific model is often marketed as a fleet vehicle, for taxi companies or other transportation services.
