The ASEAN NCAP rates the EMZOOM, the first for the brand, Guangzhou Automobile Corporation (GAC) Motor. GAC Motor released EMZOOM in Southeast Asia earlier this year and GAC recently completed its safety assessment last August 2024. Though GAC released the EMZOOM in the general Southeast Asian region, the EMZOOM 5-door hatchback variant is only available in Malaysia.
FIVE STAR RATING
GAC’s EMZOOM received a 5-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries) using the 2021-2025 assessment protocol. The EMZOOM is GAC’s “subcompact SUV” that boasts “comprehensive protection” alongside “intelligent cabin design” and “super low fuel consumption.”
ASEAN NCAP’s rating is based on four assessment categories, such as: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist assessment (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). The EMZOOM scored 36.60 points, 16.43 points, 17.86 points, and 17.50 points in these categories respectively. All in all, the EMZOOM overall assessment score totaled 88.39 points.
A LOOK AT THE EMZOOM
GAC included the EMZOOM’s standard safety features in all of its subvariants. These safety features include; an anti-lock braking system (ABS), seatbelt reminder system for the driver and front passenger seats, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for inter-urban and pedestrian. The vehicle also includes 6 airbags, blind spot visualisation (BSV), auto high beam (AHB), and pedestrian protection technology (PP).
For the Malaysia-exclusive 5-door model, the AEB motorcycle safety feature is included in all models. Additionally, its BSV feature is fitted for both the driver and front passenger seats. These features were added to provide extra support for preventing accidents with motorcycles on Malaysia’s busy roads.
Overall, the EMZOOM’s five-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP is a commendable achievement for GAC. As the brand’s first vehicle to undergo safety assessment, the EMZOOM secures an additional boost to its brand reputation.
