Suzuki has upgraded the safety features of its Swift model for Australia and New Zealand, bringing it into line with European standards and lifting its ANCAP safety rating from one star to three.
When the UZ Series Swift first arrived in 2024, it carried a lower level of safety specification than the version sold in Europe. This resulted in a one-star ANCAP safety rating. From August 2025 production, Swifts supplied locally now match the European specification, meaning buyers will see stronger safety outcomes.
Pushing for Higher Standards
ANCAP Chief Executive Carla Hoorweg welcomed the update, saying it reflects the organisation’s role in driving improvements.
“ANCAP’s role as consumer advocate is to hold manufacturers to account, and where safety deficiencies are seen, to push for improvements that help prevent deaths and reduce serious injuries,” Ms Hoorweg said.
She added that “Suzuki and MG have taken steps in the right direction.”
Ms Hoorweg also encouraged buyers to consider how safety ratings align with their own household needs. “Prospective buyers should consider the safety needs of their household, and use the ratings and information available on the ANCAP website to help inform their purchasing decisions.”
Safety Features and Scores
The upgraded Swift now includes dual frontal, side chest-protecting, and side head-protecting airbags as standard. It also features autonomous emergency braking with car-to-car, vulnerable road user, and junction assist functions.
A lane support system with lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and emergency lane keeping is included, as well as a speed assist system. A centre airbag, which provides added protection to front occupants in a side impact, is not available.
The vehicle achieved 67 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection, 65 per cent for Child Occupant Protection, 76 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 55 per cent for Safety Assist.
The updated rating applies to Suzuki Swift vehicles built from August 2025 (VIN ~250001) and on sale from September 2025. Vehicles built before August 2025 remain rated at one star. The new safety rating is valid until December 2030 and applies across all Swift variants priced under $35,000.
