The Suzuki FRONX has scored 5 stars under ASEAN’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
The model is a subcompact crossover was first introduced to the global market in 2023. It is the first Suzuki model in 6 years to be tested by ASEAN NCAP, the last being the Suzuki Ertiga in 2019.
OVERVIEW
The most recent assessment evaluated the 2025 version for the Southeast Asian market, namely: Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Manufactured in Indonesia, the vehicle scored a total of 77.70 points under the 2021-2025 Protocol. The assessment used four main categories with a corresponding number of points:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 36.71 / 40.00 points
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): 15.27 / 20.00 points
- Safety Assist (SA): 15.71 / 20.00 points
- Motorcyclist Safety (MS): 10.00 / 20.00 points
RESULTS
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)
For the AOP category, the ASEAN NCAP used a crash test to evaluate the safety of its passengers. During the frontal impact test, the driver and front passenger received good protection in the head, lap, and feet area. The driver’s chest, left shin, and the front passenger’s shins received adequate protection. The driver’s right shin received only marginal protection.
The side impact test revealed almost the same results for the driver. The head, neck, and abdomen area received good protection. Like the front impact test, the chest received only adequate protection.
The Suzuki FRONX is equipped with airbags for the driver and passenger. There are also two airbags equipped on the sides and curtains of the vehicle, but none in the knee area. These airbags are standard on all variants of the FRONX.
Child Occupant Protection (COP)
For the COP category, the child seat models used by the ASEAN NCAP were all able to fit in both the left and right passenger seats. Only 3 models were successfully installed in the front passenger seat, while 5 models were incompatible with the centre passenger seat.
Safety Assist (SA)
The FRONX is equipped with safety features such as Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, and Seatbelt Reminders (Driver, Front and Rear Passengers). Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for city and inter-urban are available as optional but not standard. Pedestrian AEB is not available for all variants. Advanced SA technologies such as Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Warning System, and Lane Keep Assist are available as standard or optional on all variants.
Motorcyclist Safety (MS)
Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for the nearside and offside of the vehicle are available as optional for all FRONX variants. Advanced Rear Visualisation, however, is not. Auto High Beam is also optional while Pedestrian Protection is standard across all variants.
In testing the FRONX’s BSD capabilities, the ASEAN NCAP verified that the feature functions according to its standards under the 2017-2020 protocol.
