The ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) awarded the Nissan Almera 2025 a 4-star rating under its 2021-2030 protocol. The same model of a different year was previously assessed by the organisation in 2013 and received a similar 4-star rating.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Nissan Almera 2025 variant was tested earlier this year in July, making it the program’s first assessment for the year 2025. The tested variant originated from Thailand and will be sold to both Thailand and Brunei. For the Southeast Asian region, the Almera is to be solely produced in Thailand and will also be sold to the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

The vehicle scored 74.74 points out of 100 possible points and 4 out of 5 stars. The breakdown of the Almera’s score is as follows:

  • Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 36.34 points / 40.00 points
  • Child Occupant Protection (COP): 16.35 points / 20.00 points
  • Safety Assist (SA): 13.74 points / 20.00 points
  • Motorcyclist Safety (MS): 8.30 points / 20.00 points

ASSESSMENT RESULTS

For the AOP category, the Almera achieved generally good results. The crash test revealed that the driver and front passenger’s heads and laps received good protection, while the chests of both crash test dummies received adequate protection. Similarly, the left shin of the driver and right shin of the passenger also received adequate protection. Lastly, the driver’s feet and ankles were only marginally protected due to a pedal blocking these areas.

Under the COP category, the results showed that child seat installation for the centre seat came with critical safety problems for some brands. All of the tested child seat models passed installation checks for both left and right passenger seats.

All in all, the Almera received 5 stars for both protection categories.

For the SA category, ASEAN NCAP found that the Almera was equipped with six airbags and safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and a Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for the driver. SBR was not available for the front and rear passengers.

The vehicle also comes with safety assist technologies like: Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for City and Inter-Urban, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Automatic High Beam (AHB). AEB was not available for pedestrians and Lane Keep Assist was also unavailable for the model.

Under the MS category, Blind Spot Detection was available for both nearside and offside of the vehicle. Advanced Rear Visualisation, however, was not available for the Almera.

The sedan scored 4 stars for both the SA and MS categories. For more information, watch the crash test here or click here for ASEAN NCAP’s detailed report.
