FCA Australia Pty Ltd is undertaking a voluntary recall of an estimated 2,350 tow bars that have been locally fitted on WK Jeep Grand Cherokee models due to safety concerns.

An FCA Australia investigation has discovered that tow bars may lose torque during towing.

A loss of fastener torque could lead to the tow bar becoming loose. If a tow bar becomes loose, it may result in the tow bar and trailer (if towing) becoming detached from the vehicle.

The affected tow bar kits were:

  • sold after 31 May 2017; and
  • can be identified with either:
    • part number LA82210140 (which fits Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland models); or
    • part number LA82210141 (which fits Grand Cherokee Summit and SRT models).

No other Jeep models or tow bars are affected.

FCA Australia is unaware of any injuries or accidents related to this recall, which is limited to vehicles fitted with the tow bar listed above.

Affected customers are advised to stop using the tow bar immediately. To determine if their tow bar is affected by the recall, customers should contact FCA Australia Customer Care on 1300 133 079 or an authorised Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealer.

Affected customers will be notified when they may schedule a repair, which will be provided free of charge.
