The lack of incentives to take up electric vehicles continues to see Australia fall behind international standards to reduce emissions.
The Electric Vehicle Council of Australia chief executive Behyad Jafari is pushing for the government to provide financial incentives to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles.
Mr Jafari has said that reductions in stamp-duty and vehicles registrations, along with removing fringe benefits, might reduce upfront costs by as much as $7000.
“[There is] certainly a need for governments to intervene in the market and … direct the market towards better outcomes,” he said.
