AfMA is delighted to recognise Peter Armour as our 2017 Fleet Manager of the Year.

Peter has served as the National Fleet Manager of Life Without Barriers since May 2014, following a 12-year stint with the Gosford City Council.

Over the past three years, Peter has been tasked with internalising fleet management operations, and for establishing new policies and procedures within the organisation.

“The review found the issues to be onerous and they all needed to be fixed as soon as possible,” Peter said.

“I was employed to implement all of these changes as part of the change to insourced fleet management. This combined with the size and spread of the fleet across all corners of the country presented many additional challenges.”

In his role with Life Without Barriers to date, Peter has successfully implemented the following initiatives:

  • Insourced fleet management from a previous outsource model
  • Reduced the total fleet models from 36 to 10.
  • Changed preferred manufacturer and replaced 500 vehicles within the first year.
  • Installed Teletrac Navman telematics in all new model vehicles within first 3 months.
  • Use of Chevin Fleetwave as a fleet management database.
  • Established all policy, procedures and business processes for a new fleet management business.

Peter’s outstanding leadership in fleet management has come at a crucial time for Life Without Barriers, with the organisation seeing significant financial growth in recent years. For Peter and the team, it meant that a structured and more clearly defined policy had to be implemented in order for the 1000+ fleet to keep up with changing business demands.

“Life Without Barriers has grown year after year as a social purpose organisation. This growth directly impacted fleet as it too grew in size during this time. Life Without Barriers, as a not-for-profit, needs to manage every dollar spent as best as it can. Fleet Management had a lot of scope to be better managed, with every dollar saved being able to be invested back towards client programs,” said Peter.

AfMA would like to congratulate Peter and the entire Life Without Barriers team for their outstanding efforts within the fleet sector. Peter’s pragmatic leadership has seen the organisation’s fleet division become more efficient and cost-effective, allowing Life Without Barriers to thrive in its organisational objectives and goals.

AfMA would like to acknowledge its official sponsor of the 2017 Fleet Manager of the Year, Teletrac Navman.
