Hyundai announced that it plans to release 100 models globally by 2030, including an extended range electric vehicle (EREV) by 2027. 

Hyundai’s goals 

Hyundai Motor Company announced its goal to launch over 100 vehicle models to boost its progress towards its goal of 5.5 million global sales by 2030. The company plans to divide its vehicle launches by market:  

  • 58 vehicle launches in North America 
  • 49 vehicle launches in Korea 
  • 41 vehicle launches in Europe 
  • 26 vehicle launches in India 
  • 22 vehicle launches in China 

During its CEO Investor Day 2026, Hyundai gave a presentation on its comprehensive 5-year plan. Within its plan is its goal of over 100 vehicle launches, which comprising both new and revised vehicle models.  

Other goals detailed in its five-year plan include a 60 per cent share of the global EV market, more than twice its recorded 23 per cent share in 2025 and an expansion of its manufacturing operations. The company plans to increase its global manufacturing capacity by 1.27 million units by 2030. 

Alongside announcing the five-year plan, Hyundai also revealed that it is investing in several technologies, such as; autonomous driving, robotaxi services, and in-house EV batteries.   

Extending its range 

The first of Hyundai’s new vehicle launches is it the extended range variant of the Santa Fe model. The vehicle is equipped with a new powertrain and can drive up to a combined range of 966km. 

The Santa Fe EREV variant is Hyundai’s first entry into the EREV or REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) market. According to the company, the model represents its “uncompromising approach to electrification.” 

EREVs are considered a sub-category of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Like a PHEV, an EREV has a petrol component and an electric component. An EREV is different from a PHEV in how the combustion engine is used. Its petrol engine charges the car’s battery while it is driving, whereas a PHEV can directly drive the wheels, with the battery typically charged externally as well as through regenerative braking and, depending on the system, the engine.
