Managing mixed vehicle fleets is becoming more complex as businesses balance petrol, diesel, and electric vehicles. A new digital payments solution aims to simplify that process by bringing fuel and EV charging together into one system.
The platform enables fleet operators to manage transactions, reporting, and driver access across both fuel and electric charging, reducing the need for multiple tools as EV adoption grows.
The solution has been launched by WEX through its Motorpass platform, integrating with the Chargefox network operated by Australian Motoring Services. It provides access to thousands of public charging points alongside existing fuel payment capabilities.
Matt Arthur, Vice President and General Manager of WEX Australia, said simplifying access to charging is critical as fleets transition.
“Electric vehicles are key to the energy transition in Australia. Providing simplified access to charging infrastructure nationwide is essential to supporting businesses through the transition with confidence,” he said.
“The introduction of digital payments infrastructure that combines EV charging capabilities with multi-brand fuel access, while supporting driver confidence through a single app, is a crucial next step to ease the burden on businesses as they navigate the energy transition.”
Addressing range anxiety and access
Range anxiety continues to be a major barrier for fleet electrification, particularly for businesses operating long-distance routes. As of late 2025, it influenced up to 60 per cent of EV purchase decisions.
The integrated system includes route planning tools that allow drivers to locate and access chargers along their journey, helping reduce detours, downtime and operational costs. Access to more than 3,000 public charging ports is included, with real-time visibility designed to ease pressure on depot-based charging.
Reducing complexity for mixed fleets
For fleet managers, adding EVs to their fleets often adds administrative complexity, especially when managing both internal combustion and electric vehicles.
The integrated platform allows businesses to track fuel and charging transactions in one place, alongside other vehicle-related expenses such as maintenance, tolls and car washes. This creates a consolidated view of vehicle usage and total cost of ownership, with near real-time data.
Islam Hassan, Chief Customer Officer at Australian Motoring Services, operator of Chargefox, said reducing system complexity is key for adoption.
“As fleets transition to EVs, reducing complexity makes a real difference,” he said.
“By integrating charging into the WEX Motorpass app, we’re giving mixed fleets one familiar platform across all vehicles. It streamlines reporting and compliance for managers, and keeps things simple for drivers, with no extra apps and no new processes.”
The EV functionality can be added to existing fuel cards within one business day, allowing fleets to integrate electric vehicles into their operations without replacing current systems. For more information, please visit the WEX Motorpass website.
