Queensland is set to unveil Australia’s first electric vehicle (EV) charger and community battery factory this August. eLumina’s $20 million facility on the Gold Coast will produce 300 batteries and EV chargers annually and create 300 local jobs.
The new factory will provide up to 100 Queensland households with affordable, reliable renewable energy and is a significant step in advancing Australia’s clean energy sector. It will manufacture the All-in-One Ultra-Fast (D1) EV Charger, featuring a 193 kWh battery, and offer community battery storage systems in sizes up to 1,500 kWh.
eLumina CEO Lisa Marsh emphasised the importance of local manufacturing for Australia’s energy future. “With the growing demand for batteries and our record solar energy generation, we need large-scale battery storage to make the most of our clean energy,” Marsh said.
“Our goal is to make Australia a leader in battery technology and provide more reliable and cheaper power for everyone.”
Meanwhile, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate praised the new factory, noting its potential to boost the city’s clean energy sector and create high-skilled jobs.
“I’m excited to see our city’s products making a mark across Australia,” Tate said.
The factory also includes a research and development centre to train Queenslanders in battery and EV technology. eLumina has partnered with Addelec to accelerate the deployment of EV chargers nationwide.
