Australian electric vehicle charging company Tritium is set to build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Tennessee, bringing Australia further into the global electric vehicle market.
The Brisbane-based electric vehicle (EV) charging company’s announcement was made at a press conference held at the White House with President Joe Biden present and showing his support.
The new manufacturing facility is expected create more than 500 jobs over the next five years and eventually produce approximately 30 000 fast charging units per year.
“It’s such exciting news for Tritium, which is a Brisbane-based company, founded out of a backyard shed 20 years ago,” Head of Policy at the Electric Vehicle Council in Australia, Dr Jake Whitehead said
“I’ve known this team for a long time, they’ve been working super hard and now, they’ve gone from strength to strength recently being listed on the NASDAQ and today taking the stage with the President of the United States.”
President Biden recently announced $7.5 billion will be dedicated to build a national network of 500,000 EV chargers along highway corridors in the U.S. Tritium’s new factory in Tennessee supports this vision and the slow electrification of global fleets.
