Tourist fleets in Egypt are in financial trouble with almost a thousand cars and micro, mini and large buses being dropped from tourism operators.
From 2015 to 2016 the number of vehicles dropped from 2699 to just 1606, according to Egypt’s Chamber of Tourism Companies and Agencies.
In the report, limousines totaled 1349, microbuses 158, minibuses 54 and large buses topped 44. It also states safari vehicle numbers dropped from 4200 in January 2011, to just over 1800 in late 2016.
It’s been reported the level of tourism transportation investment had tumbled by 80 percent in the past twelve months due to declining tourism to Egypt.
Only 5.3 million visitors in 2016 was down substantially on 2015’s 9.3 million, which has been attributed to the Russian and British cancellation of flights since the Metrojet light crash in October 2015. The Chamber says nearly 11,000 drivers who have been trained have been left without work as a result.
