Ford recalled around 36,000 units of several of its models in Australia. Manufactured between the years 2021 and 2024, the models Puma, Ranger, Everest, Transit Custom, Transit, Mustang, F-150, and Mustang Mach-E comprise majority of the recalled vehicles. Earlier in May, 13,490 units of the Ranger and Everest diesel V6 models built between 2022-2025 were also recalled by the manufacturer.

SEVERAL ISSUES

The Department of Infrastructure released a notice on the recalls, citing several issues. The first is “a software issue” wherein “the rear-view camera may not display the rear-view image whilst reversing as intended.” This type of damage risks anyone standing behind the vehicle of serious injury or death. Around 30,000 units of the Ranger, Everest, Transit Custom, Transit, Mustang, F-150, and Mustang Mach-E models were recalled for this issue.

The second issue concerns the Ford Everest, of which 955 units were recalled. Everest models that were built from 2022 to 2024 have a defect with their windows. According to the notice:

“Due to a software issue, if a vehicle occupant places an obstruction such as a body part in the window space when the driver or passenger side windows are closing, the window may not automatically reverse and may exert an upward force greater than the design intent.”

This is Ford’s second recall of this issue. The first recall affected the Everest and Transit Custom models in October last year. This time, Ford may have installed the “incorrect software update” for the previously fixed Everest models.

The third and last issue affected Puma models built between the years 2021 and 2024. Instead of a software issue, this model has “a manufacturing defect” where “the fuel line sleeve may change against the support bracket and become damaged.” This type of defect increases the risk of a fuel leak, which can cause loss of power while driving or even a fire.

RECALLS ABROAD

Australia isn’t the only country facing issues with Ford. The automaker recalled over 197,000 of the Mustang Mach E model in its home country, the US. The recall was ordered over a defect with the latches of its back doors, which could potentially trap backseat occupants in the vehicle. The issue may arise when the back doors remain locked after the driver or the front seat occupant exits the vehicle.

According to the US’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected models are Mustang Mach E’s built between 2021 and 2025.

Based on Reuters’ report, Ford also recalled 2,272 units of its 2025 Bronco models because of a defect with air bag deployment.
