By November 5, 2026News, Southeast Asia

Premium vehicle brand Smart announced its official debut in Thailand last 21 October with a line-up of three electric vehicles (EVs).

Launching in Thailand

Thailand’s premium EV segment has a new competitor, Smart, known as Mercedes-Benz AG and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group’s joint venture. For its debut, Smart is releasing three flagship models: the smart #1 compact SUV, the smart #3 SUV coupé and the smart #5 mid-size SUV.

The brand partnered with Thai company Thonburi Group as its official importer and distributor.

According to the company’s press release, Smart will be opening its first showroom in Bangkok later this year. Its sales and after-sales customer experiences will be supported by Mercedes-Benz’s local network.

“Officially launching in Thailand is an important step for smart, significantly expanding our presence in Southeast Asia. The country’s evolving EV market and urban mobility needs align closely with our vision of redefining the urban mobility experience,” said Smart’s Global Chief Marketing Officer Kang Yi.

Partnering with Thonburi

Smart’s local partner Thonburi Group has more than 85 years of experience in the domestic automotive industry.

“Together with Thonburi Group, we look forward to bringing our unique blend of premium electric vehicles and an exceptional ownership experience to customers in Thailand,” Kang Yi said.

Smart said its electric line-up was aimed at buyers looking for more advanced vehicles as Thailand’s EV market develops. The brand believes that it “perfectly meets” the country’s need for more advanced vehicles.

“Our partnership with smart represents another significant milestone in Thonburi Group’s long-term growth strategy. Together with smart, we look forward to delivering a new generation of premium electric mobility, combining world-class design, intelligent technologies, and exceptional customer experiences while contributing to the continued development of Thailand’s electric vehicle ecosystem,” said Thonburi Group’s executive director Papon Viriyaphant.

Thonburi Group will provide Smart with its established network of network from consultations to handovers and other curated lifestyle experiences.
