The Deepal S07, a medium-sized battery electric SUV, has earned a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). Officially launching in Australia in January 2025, this result applies to all variants of the vehicle.
Leading Safety Standards
The Deepal S07 achieved a remarkable 95 per cent score for Adult Occupant Protection, matching the Toyota Camry as the top scorer under ANCAP’s 2023–2025 assessment criteria. This makes the S07 one of the safest vehicles for adult occupants on the market.
ANCAP also awarded the S07 86 per cent for Child Occupant Protection, 74 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 78 per cent for Safety Assist technologies.
Key safety features include dual frontal airbags, side chest-protecting airbags, and side head-protecting airbags. Additionally, a centre airbag enhances protection for front-seat occupants in side impact crashes.
Advanced safety systems are standard across all variants, including:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for cars, pedestrians, and cyclists.
- A lane support system with Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK).
- Speed Assistance Systems (SAS) with speed sign recognition.
Exceptional Crash Test Results
The Deepal S07 excelled in crash tests where it received perfect scores for driver protection in side-impact (T-bone) and oblique pole collisions. It achieved similar scores for front-seat passenger protection in head-on crashes.
Its design also showed minimal risk to occupants of opposing vehicles during frontal collisions, with only a minor 0.86-point deduction.
For child occupants, the S07 achieved maximum points in frontal offset and side impact tests, further cementing its reputation as a family-friendly SUV.
The Deepal S07 also performed notably for safe access to trapped or injured occupants. It is equipped with retractable door handles which automatically extend after a crash. This ensures that doors can be opened even if the vehicle loses power. Electric windows also stay operable following water submersion.
Room for Improvement
While the S07 scored highly across most safety metrics, some AEB pedestrian scenarios and AEB crossing tests showed mixed results. ANCAP noted a marginal performance in scenarios where the S07 had to auto-brake when crossing another vehicle’s path.
Commenting on the results, ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg said, “We’ve seen a number of new brands enter the local market over the past year, and they continue to impress in meeting the high safety standard Australian consumers and fleet buyers expect.”
The Deepal S07’s five-star safety rating is valid until December 2030. Full technical details of the safety report can be found here.
