AfMA offers several paid scholarships for our industry’s Diploma of Leadership & Management (contextualised for the Fleet and Automotive industries) which is facilitated by Swinburne University.

AfMA’s corporate partners, Geotab, Autorola, Ampol, Pedders Suspension & Brakes, and Zurich Resilient Solutions offer general scholarships paid at 50%, whilst Toyota for Business offers a women in fleet scholarship paid at 70% and Fleetcare offers an industry leader scholarship and an indigenous leader scholarship paid at 100%.

Each of these organisations recognise the importance of professionalising the fleet and motor vehicle industries and proudly demonstrate this through their financial support. The scholarships are offered exclusively to AfMA’s corporate members, but the Diploma is open to anyone.

AfMA acknowledges the need for scholarship winners to remain independent of scholarship sponsors, therefore AfMA decide the scholarship winners based on their detailed application and submission (i.e. scholarship sponsors are not involved in selecting the scholarship winner).

AfMA received 9 scholarship applications for the 2024 cohort with each deserving an opportunity however we only have seven scholarships available.

After many hours of reviewing applications and speaking with referees, the judging committee has awarded scholarships to the following people for 2024, noting their thoughts.

  1. Thomas Brayley (Logan City Council), general scholarship supported by Geotab.

“A passionate fleet leader who not only mentors and coaches his team but is active in the broader fleet community as chair of the Fleet Council Advisory Board for IPWEA. This diploma will solidify Thomas’s natural skills and prepare him for more senior roles.”

  1. Elizabeth Martin (Essential Energy), general scholarship supported by Autorola.

“A great application supported by references that talk to her commitment to going above and beyond, always looking to improve processes and take people along for the journey.”

  1. Renae McLaughlin (Shire of Mundaring), general scholarship supported by Ampol.

“The first female fleet and waste coordinator for Mundaring who is clearly driven to do more. Managing a complex fleet including the vehicles of the local bush fire brigade, Renae constantly delivers and has volunteered to lead the development of their EV transition.”

  1. Elise McLellan (Yarra Ranges Council), general scholarship supported by Pedders Suspension and Brakes.

“A passionate and resilient fleet officer. Demonstrated her abilities over 3 years of secondment, her passion for continuous improvement and care for others never waning. The diploma will prepare Elise for career advancement.”

  1. Cailin Hancock (Airmaster), general scholarship supported by Zurich Resilience Solutions

“Outstanding young fleet manager with a thirst for learning. A senior manager asked her which FMO had she worked for previously which is a wonderful compliment given this is her first fleet role.”

  1. Tharshine Pooranachandran (Blacktown City Council), women in fleet scholarship supported by Toyota for Business.

“Dedicated to fleet and continuous improvement. Constantly going above and beyond to ensure the business provides a safe and sustainable fleet. The diploma will complement Tharshine’s technical knowledge and prepare her for career progression.”

  1. Sean Cleverly (WA, Dep of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety), industry leaders scholarship supported by Fleetcare.

“With strong fleet technical knowledge, Sean is empathetic, an outstanding influencer, and a great strategist. The diploma will validate his people management skills and equip him to advance his career.”
