ANCAP has issued a five-star safety rating to the MG 4 Electric following a stellar safety performance when it was assessed under the 2020-2022 rating criteria. The rating applies to its two-wheel-drive variants.

“The MG 4 Electric is the first MG model to achieve five stars under ANCAP’s 2020-2022 protocols,” said ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg.

The small car demonstrated commendable performance in Safety Assist with a total score of 81%. It features a wide arrange of collision avoidance technologies including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), active lane support, and fatigue monitoring.

The lane support system installed in the MG 4 Electric exhibited strong performance in lane-keep assist tests and satisfactory performance in more critical emergency lane-keeping situations.

In terms of Vulnerable Road User Protection, the MG 4 scored 75%. It achieved favorable results in AEB Cyclist and select AEB Car-to-Car test scenarios, including instances where it turned across the path of an oncoming vehicle.

However, outcomes varied in AEB Pedestrian test scenarios, and the AEB Backover feature, intended to identify pedestrians in reverse, was absent.

It also excelled in Adult Occupant Protection with a total score of 83%. It garnered a maximum score in side impact and oblique pole tests. Meanwhile, it achieved a mix of Good, Adequate, and Marginal results in full-width frontal and frontal offset (MPDB) tests.

The vehicle scored 86% in terms of Child Occupant Protection with particularly strong scores in both front and side impact crash tests.
