New Zealand supplied variants of the BYD Atto 3 have scored 5 stars in safety from ANCAP. This rating applies to both the Standard Range and Extended Range NZ variants.
“This five-star ANCAP safety rating for the BYD Atto 3 will no doubt come as welcome news to New Zealand buyers looking for a safe and green choice within its price point,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.
The BYD Atto 3 has received 91% in Adult Occupant Protection, 84% in Child Occupant Protection, 69% in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 80% in Safety Assist.
“The active safety capability of the Atto 3 was shown to be of a high standard, with the standard-fit pedestrian and cyclist-detecting autonomous emergency braking system offering good levels of performance in forward, reverse, daytime and night-time test scenarios,” acccording to a media release from ANCAP.
The small SUV features dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting (curtain) airbags. It also has a centre airbag.
Furthermore, it has autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, Junction Assist and Backover) as well as a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK), and a speed sign recognition system.
Australian-supplied BYD Atto 3 vehicles are not yet rated but ANCAP is working with the manufacturer to finalise the applicability of a rating for models distributed in Australia.
