Ducati welcomes its first electric motorcycle, the “V21L” prototype which will be competing in the FIM MotoE World Cup as of 2023.
The motorcycle is capable of reaching a speed of 275km/h with maximum power and torque figures of 110 kW (150 hp) and 140 Nm.
It has a total weight of 225kg with the battery pack weighing in at 110 kg and offers a capacity of 18 kWh with a 20-kW charging socket integrated into the tail. Inside there are 1,152 cylindrical cells of the “21700” type.
The Ducati MotoE takes about 45 minutes to recharge it up to 80% of its range.
Energica has been the single manufacturer for FIM MotoE World Cup electric motorcycle racing and will maintain its role until the end of 2022, where Ducati will then become the exclusive supplier of all 18 bikes used from 2023-2026.
The Electronic controls developed by Ducati Corse such as Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Slide Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, and throttle/engine brake maps are indistinguishable from that of the racing bikes that Ducati riders are used to.
The creation of the prototype was an “all hands-on deck” effort with all departments working together in a way not seen before. Ducati R&D managed the project and oversaw the design and simulation work for the electric powertrain while Ducati Corse worked up the design of parts, software strategies, aero and dynamic simulations, assembly, and data acquisition.
