Petrol company Ampol has recently announced the initial rollout of an Australian fast-charging network commencing with five pilot sites in Carseldine QLD, Alexandria NSW, Northmead NSW, Altona North VIC, and Belmont WA beginning June 2022.
Branded as AmpCharge, this pilot rollout is part of an agreement with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) announced in July last year which involves putting up 120 sites by October 2023. ARENA has provided partial funding for the project as part of the Future Fuels Program.
The AmpCharge fast chargers will use renewable or green certified energy. It will be capable of charging BEVs up to 150kw with each site being able to charge at least two BEV units simultaneously. There will also be solar panel systems at the sites as well as provisions for batter storage.

Ampol is looking to establish the leading EV charging network in Australia by 2030, including a fleet offer for business customers.
